Friday Fictioneers – 22nd August 2014

Friday rolls around again, and with it Friday Fictioneers. Writers around the world receive a prompt pic from Rochelle: parked

I am one of those writers. I writered these 100 words:

The electrical failure was the cause, coinciding as it did with the petrol tanker drivers’ strike. The traffic signals stopped working, the jams grew unstoppably, nobody could move. And then the tanks of the cars ran dry, they stayed where they were, their owners stranded.

The strike eventually broke but by then the roads were blocked and useless. The immovable commuters were forced to live on vegetation they found on roadsides. Time passed, they cultivated grass verges, foliage devoured now useless vehicles. Communities of “Jammers” rose up on motorways and slip roads.

People adapted, lives changed. And the air cleared.
