A low hum of conversation filled the lecture theatre as the students waited for the first lecture of the autumn term. Towards the rear, two girls were comparing their summer trips.
“And while I was in Thailand,” Kate said, “I got this tattoo.” She pulled up the sleeve of her tie-died shirt to reveal a line of Chinese script characters on her bicep.
“That’s cool,” Eleanor said, impressed.
“It says tomorrow may be too late – my personal philosophy.”
A snigger in the row behind. The two travellers turned.
“What it really says,” laughed an oriental student, “is Dumb western tourist!”
