Friday Fictioneers 7th March 2014

Has another week gone by already? Has Friday arrived? Is it time to post some Flash Fiction? Yes, yes and hell yes! Rochelle has given us a high-altitude prompt this week:lengai_summit_from_crater-danny-bowman

And these words travelled from Whereverwordscomefrom to my fingers…

Thirty three long hours later, atmospheric checks complete, it is time to open the hatch. Solo extra-vehicular exploration is never permitted, but as the only survivor of the life support failure, it is my sole option.

For success, the mission only required one of us to land, to walk on the distant planetโ€™s surface and find it safe, to breathe the alien air and know it could support life.

I reach the highest ground and raise the antenna. The radio transmits the message. I have arrived. I have found a new home and a new hope for the human race.
