Thirty three long hours later, atmospheric checks complete, it is time to open the hatch. Solo extra-vehicular exploration is never permitted, but as the only survivor of the life support failure, it is my sole option.
For success, the mission only required one of us to land, to walk on the distant planet’s surface and find it safe, to breathe the alien air and know it could support life.
I reach the highest ground and raise the antenna. The radio transmits the message. I have arrived. I have found a new home and a new hope for the human race.
